وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا: صح؟
كنت قد كتبت عن حياة المسلمين في هولندا وفي اوروبا بشكل عام: كتبت عن مساجدهم وأحزابهم السياسية وعن كيف يُشاهدهم غير المسلمين. في هذه المقالة اريد ان اكتب عن تعليمهم في مؤسسة إسلامية في هولندا وبلجيكا التي تقدّم “دورات تعليمية إسلامية” مختلفة: من اللغة العربية إلى الاسلام ومن حِفظ القرآن إلى كيف تصبحين ربة منزل مسلمة ممتازة.
مثل هذه الدورات التعليمية المرتبطة بدين معين، ليست حكراً على الدين الاسلامي. إذ توجد ايضاً دورات تعليمية مسيحية ويهودية وبوذية وقد تكون هذه الدورات اقلّ مشبوهة بسبب الجو الاجتماعي الإسلاموفوبي في أوروبا الغربية. ولكن، لانني أدرس اللغة العربية والعلوم الاسلامية فأريد ان أعرف اكثر عن الدورات التعليمية الاسلامية الموجودة في هولندا وبلجيكا
تقدّم هذه الدورات التعليمية “مؤسسة للتربية وللتعليم”. والدورة لتصبح ربة المنزل مسلمة التي سأخذها مثالا في هذه المقالة، تستغرق سنتين ونصف وتعطى في مدينة اوترخت لمن يزيد عمرها عن ١٥ سنة. كما هو مكتوب في موقع المؤسسة فالدورة هي: “التعليم الوحيد الذي يركز بشكل كامل على المرأة المسلمة والتي تقدّم كل المعلومات الضرورية ليستجبن لواجباتهن ومسؤولياتهن تجاه الله وكزوجات وكأمهات.” من بين هذه الواجبات والمسؤوليات معرفة صحيحة عن بالشريعة الاسلامية لكي يحافظن على أنفسهن وأقربائهن من عقاب يوم القيامة
من بين الدروس درس حول أصول الاسلام وهو يضم ثلاثة مواضيع: الفقه والتوحيد والتربية الاسلامية. وتقدّم الدورة التعليمية ايضاً دروساً عملية على سبيل المثال الخياطة والطبخ و”عِلم العائلة”، بمعنى العلاقة بين الأهل وتربية الاطفال والإسعافات الأولية. وبجانب الدروس الاسبوعية توجد دورات شتوية وصيفية التي تركز اكثر على حِفظ القرآن والتجويد
تسعى المؤسسة إلى تقديم “الاسلام الأصلي” خصوصاً عند الشباب. أحد أهداف تركيزهم على هذه المجموعة هو أن تحول دون أن يقضي الشباب وقتهم عبثاً في الشوارع. ولكن المؤسسة لاتركز على المسلمين فقط، بل كما هو مكتوب على موقعها باللغة الهولندية:

Het Instituut wil zich ook specifiek gaan richten op niet-moslims, door een brug te slaan tussen hen en de Islaam en de moslims. Gezien de veranderende verhoudingen binnen de samenleving, en de spanningen die dit soms met zich kan meebrengen, acht het Instituut het van zeer groot belang dat niet-moslims de juiste voorlichting krijgen over de Islaam.Het Instituut streeft ernaar een brug te slaan tussen niet-moslims en moslims, door bijvoorbeeld het organiseren van kennismakingscursussen met de Islaam en het organiseren van lezingen bij verschillende instellingen.
ما ترجمته: أن المؤسسة تبني جسراً بينهم (وهم هنا يعني الذين غير المسلمين) والاسلام والمسلمين لكي ينخفض التوتر الموجود بين هاتين المجموعتين عبر إعطاء المحاضرات ودروس تعريفية.
إتصلتُ بالمؤسسة بسبب فضولي والبيان المذكور أعلاه. قدمتُ نفسي في الإيميل وشرحتُ نيتي بالاتصال بهم. ثمّ سألت إذا كان بإمكاني أن أزورهم (عنوان المؤسسة ليس مكتوباً على الموقع) لربما أتبع أحد الدروس. وإذا بإمكاني أن أحصل على معلومات أكثر عن الدروس، وعن الكتب المستخدمة. حصلتُ على جواب من كلمتين: غير مهتمين.
لازم أقول أن هذا الجواب أدهشني، وصرتُ أفكر كيف عليّ أن أشعر تجاه هذا الرفض. أولاً، أظن أنه ليس عليّ أن آخذه بشكل شخصي لأنّ التواصل بين المسلمين وغير المسلمين في المجتمع الحالي صعب نوعاً ما. ولكن، إهتمامي بالمؤسسة هو، على ما أظن، محاولة للتواصل. خصوصاً لانني طالبة أدرس موضوع الدين الاسلامي. وعدم الشرح لماذا “غير مهتمين”، يجعلني أشعر بالإحباط.
بالنسبة لي المشكلة ليست الرفض بذاته. فكما كتبتُ في أحد مدوناتي الأخرى، يحقّ لايّ مجموعة من المسلمين، مثل ايّ اقلية أخرى، اماكنهم الخاصة بهم لنشاطاتهم. وانا أفهم انني ليس لدي الحق أن أدخل هذه الاماكن. وهذه هي الديموقراطية: الحق أن تكون مختلفاً بدون أن تُعتبر خطراً. ولكن كيفية الرفض جعلتني أشك في الأمر. لماذا لا يرحّبون بطلبي للحصول على معلومات أكثر؟ هذه مؤسسة نظرياً مفتوحة لطلاب من جميع الخلفيات. فإذا هذا الرد على شخص يدرس العلوم الاسلامية، أتساءل ماذا تُدرّسون في موضوع “التعامل مع غير المسلمين”؟
توجد وسائل أخرى كان بإمكاني أن أستخدمها قد تكون أكثر ناجحة للحصول على معلومات إضافية. مثلا، كان ممكن أن أقول إنني مسلمة، أو أوهمهم انني قريبة من أن اعتنق الإسلام. ولكني لم أفعل ذلك لانني أردت أن أكون نفسي عندما أتواصل مع المؤسسة. هل كان اأفضل لو تصرفت بشكل آخر من أجل الحصول على المعلومات؟ ما رأيكم؟

In the past, I have written about Islam and Muslims in the Netherlands and in Europe in general: their mosques, their political parties, and the way they are perceived by the non-Muslims. But this time, I would like to write about an Islamic institution active in the Netherlands and Belgium in offering “Islamic courses”. These courses are very divers in their content: from the Arabic language to Islam 101, and from memorizing the Quran to a course on how to become the ideal Islamic housewife
Courses like these, specific to a religious group, are not limited to Islam. Christian, Jewish and Buddhist are also to be found, but perhaps these are not as sensitive as the Islamic courses given the at times ‘islamophobic climate’ prevailing in Western Europe. However, as a student of Arabic and Islamic studies, I want to know more about the specific Islamic course institute
The Islamic courses are organized by the “Institute for upbringing and education” (their Dutch acronym is “ivoe”). As an example in this article, I will describe the “Islamic housewife” course which lasts 2,5 years and can be followed in the city of Utrecht by any women of at least 15 years old. As the website states, the course is: “the only course that is completely focused on the Muslim woman and provides all the knowledge she needs to successfully meet her obligations and responsibilities as servant of Allaah, wife, mother and housewife.” Among these is correct knowledge of the Islamic ways so that she can safe herself and her environment from God’s punishment
The course’s classes offer basic knowledge on the Islam which entails three elements: fiqh (law), tawhied (unity of God), and Islamic upbringing. It also offers practical classes on for example sewing, cooking and administration next to a class on “family science”, meaning a class on the parent’s relationship, on child upbringing and a first aid course. Next to the weekly classes, the institution organizes summer and winter schools focusing more on tajwied (recitation) and hifth (memorizing) of the Qurʾan
Through its courses, the institution aims to promote “pure Islam”, especially among young people. Among other, the goal of targeting this latter group is formulated as “keeping them off the street”. But aside from targeting Muslims, the institute expresses its wish to focus on non-Muslims too stating:

Translated, this means that it aims to build a bridge between them (being ‘non Muslims’) and the Islam or Muslims to lessen the tensions existent between the two groups by giving lectures and introductionairy courses
I contacted the institution on the basis of my curiosity and the above cited statement. I first introduced myself, and explained my intentions in contacting them. I then asked if I could visit the institution (their address is not written on their site), maybe even follow a class, and asked for more information on for example what books are used for the courses. However, my e-mail was answered with only two words: Not interested
I need to admit that I found this confusing, and I have been thinking about how I should feel about this rejection. First of all, I don’t think I should take it personally. After all, Dutch society is on in which communication between non-Muslims and Muslims is somewhat difficult. But secondly, my interest in the institution is, I think, an attempt to communicate, especially because I am a student studying Islam. The fact that there is no explanation as to why there is ‘no interest’, makes me feel disappointed
The problem for me is not so much the refusal itself. I wrote in an earlier blog that the Muslim community, like any other minority community, has the right to their private spaces and activities. I understand that I am not entitled to entering that space. After all, that is what a democracy is: the right to be different without being considered a threat. However, the way I am refused makes me suspicious. Why would I not be welcomed to receive more information on the institute and its courses? It is an institution theoretically open to students of all backgrounds. If this is the reaction to a curios outsider studying Islam, what is taught in the course “dealing with non-Muslims”, I wonder
There are other ways in which I could have approach the institution which would have probably been more successful if I really wanted to know what was going on. I could have for example, pretended to be a Muslim, or given the illusion that I was about to convert. But I didn’t, because I wanted to approach the institution as myself. Would it have been better if otherwise, in the interest of information? What is your opinion
